The 2017 has not been a great year for movies. Especially if we analyze the Bollywood scenario. Movies this year came with great expectations and fell completely flat on celluloid. The biggest disappointments were the big-budget star-powered ones which made us cringe at the colossal waste of money and opportunity.
Here’s a look back into the year and some of the most disastrous Bollywood movies of 2017:
1. Jab Harry Met Sejal
Pritam’s hummable soundtracks in this Movie done a great job to entertain the audience. But what we got in return was a stupid love story that did not make any sense anywhere in the entire movie. We expected the teaming up of Imtiaz Ali and Shahrukh Khan to deliver stuff to be remembered for a lifetime, but completely opposite happened!
2. A Gentleman: Sundar, Susheel, Risky
This movie is an epitome to remind directors that good-looking faces and picturesque locations are not enough to strike a chord with movie-goers. Even movies full of glamorous stuff needs coherence. This movie appeared as if it is made to only show the audience how good an expensive holiday could be in Miami. The double role of Siddharth Malhotra did not do any wonders and Jacqueline Fernandez did nothing in the movie except giving fitness goals!
3. Half Girlfriend
The flick which was thought to be the magnum opus of director Mohit Suri’s movie projects turned into gigantic misfire on big-screen. Hammy scenes, zero chemistry between Shraddha Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor and myriad moments which were an unintentional comic made this film a slog. Songs of this movie did make some good impressions but the movie was totally impossible to digest.
4. Haseena Parkar
It appears like the year 2017 was not in good synchronization with the flicks of actress Shraddha Kapoor. After getting trolled for ‘Half Girlfriend’, another mishap that happened in form of cinema with the actress was ‘Haseena Parkar’. A lot of effort was put by director Apoorva Lakhia to make the actress feel and look the part, but unfortunately, all the efforts went down the drain. Expectations were high from this film but lack of experience of the protagonist made this film a laughable time-pass
5. Raabta
This flick proved itself to be utterly foolish as it involved the idea of reincarnation which has become evidently outdated and irritating. Ask an average youngster about the movie involving reincarnation as a backdrop and a mocking answer is sure! Actors with great potential (Kriti Sanon, Sushant Singh Rajpoot, and Jim Sarbh) were reduced to the point of silly characters in this film. The costumes and the styling were the only things that made people ‘bear’ this exhausting movie. Looks like the director Dinesh Vijan was half asleep while he directed this film.
6. Jagga Jasoos
While the jury is still out on this Ranbir Kapoor-Katrina Kaif starrer, box office tells a different story altogether. Jagga Jasoos was made by Anurag Basu on a budget of Rs 131 crore but the movie only recovered an estimated Rs 83.35 crore. The movie is a visual feast, with dialogues rolling out in rhyme and a detective who deserves to be every child’s hero but none of that could save Jagga Jasoos from sinking.
7. Begum Jaan
Srijit Mukherjee’s movie was expected to unleash Vidya Balan’s ‘Dirty Picture’ magic, but ended up being a squib. The trailer was received positively but the actual movie barely recovered its budget. Begum Jaan was made on a budget of an estimated amount of Rs 19 crore and made an estimated Rs 20.68 crore.
Conclusion
I was sitting idle and gave thought to some disastrous Bollywood movies of 2017 but the number don’t stop here.
If you know about similar movies which have faced the similar fate then I would like to know about them in the comments section below.
